Support Workers (Dover, Canterbury and Thanet districts)
East Kent Mencap is developing and expanding services across the Dover, Canterbury and Thanet districts.
We are initially recruiting two full time positions and various permanent relief posts which are likely to lead to permanency in due course.
Due to the nature of personalised services it is difficult to be specific as to exact roles at this point.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Support Worker: Generic
Responsible to: Team Leader - Manager- Supported Housing
Areas of responsibility: Existing and Developing Services
Purpose of Post: To Support the Coordinators, Team Leader and Manager to provide efficient and effective services (Generic).
Supporting Individuals and groups - Housing, Day Services, Community Support, Clubs – all existing and future services
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The following serves to highlight a typical list of responsibilities and tasks. The post holder must, in every instance, support people with Learning Disabilities to maximise decision making, choice and control of their own services and lives. The post holder will not undertake to complete general tasks as a quick option. East Kent Mencap is currently developing a raft of new services in areas covering Dover, Canterbury and Thanet.
Participate and support the process of change of all East Kent Mencap services.
Train and support People with Learning Disabilities in programmes relating to maintaining / developing the ability to live independently.
Ensure that People with Learning Disabilities take the lead in the organisation and completion of tasks, activities etc.
Review the progress and development
Support the development of Person Centred Plans
Assist people to explore risk and safe systems of working / record findings
Facilitate focus Meetings
Maintain progress records
Maintain general records
Liaise with other professionals and share agreed information to maximise services
Ensure that welfare, dignity and choice is maintained
Administer and record medication
Follow all financial administration procedures
Follow all Health & Safety protocols and assist in the development of “In House” strategies
Activate emergency protocols in the case of accident / emergency
Follow all Society Guidelines and Policies
Participate in the development of services
Participate in induction, training and development
Participate in supervision, target setting and appraisal
Ensure that concerns about work related issues are forwarded to Line Manager
Ensure complaints about services are forwarded to Line Manager
Perform general duties as required by the Society
Employees will be expected to work across all current and future Units either owned or managed by East Kent Mencap
THIS JOB DESCRIPTION CAN BE MODIFIED (WITHIN THE GENERAL CONFINES OF THE POST AND ORGANISATION) IN NEGOTIATION WITH THE EMPLOYEE AS THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE POST DICTATES
